There are things that this government can do to affect climate change that are not mentioned in the background or consultation papers:

 

  • Change building standards so that new buildings are green;
  • Change emissions regulations and make hybrid vehicles more accessible
  • Buy local;
  • Make solar panels and other renewable energy sources accessible to all Nova Scotians
  • Support green workplace initiatives;
  • Change transportation policies to reduce travel and encourage

     videoconferencing as an alternative to face to face interaction;

  • Provide Nova Scotians with an efficient public transportation system that will limit the number of cars driven each day.

CUPE N.S. tells energy minister to 'start' 'walking the walk' on climate change

(Halifax) - The president of CUPE Nova Scotia says Energy Minister Richard Hurlburt and

his department need to "start walking the walk, and not just talking the talk, when it comes to

climate change, the province's energy plan.
