URGENT : RECRUITMENT TO NORTHWOOD HALIFAX : COVID-19 OUTBREAK, LPN’s and CCA’s

There is a dangerous crisis at Northwood’s long-term care facility in Halifax.

The situation is dire, with dozens of residents and staff having tested positive for COVID-19.  This has caused a staffing crisis.

Unions representing hospital workers, long term care and home support workers, are working with government to meet Northwood’s staffing needs and to ensure Northwood’s residents receive the care they require with dignity.

We are asking for your help.

Staff who agree to work at Northwood:

  • Will remain employed by their current employer(s) with no reduction in pay or benefits, respecting all compensation provisions of the Good Neighbor Protocol.
  • Will not experience any loss of pay or benefits resulting from a reduction in hours (caused by the change in employment location) or time required to be spent in isolation.
  • Will not work at any facility other than Northwood.
  • Will receive an orientation from Northwood regarding their work.

All staff working with presumed or confirmed COVID-19 residents at Northwood will be provided with full personal protective equipment as per appropriate precautions.

If you are interested in assisting, please reach out to your Manager and they will reach out to Northwood on your behalf.

If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to your Local President and they will assist you in reaching your staff representative.

Please know that CUPE will continue to work to protect your interests as you complete your essential work.  We will get through this crisis, together.

In solidarity,
