On June 11th, CUPE Nova Scotia observes WIlliam Davis Miners’ Memorial Day in recognition of the many lives lost in our province’s coal mines. The date is named for a miner who was killed while courageously protesting against the anti-worker actions of the British Empire Steel Corporation during a 1925 strike near New Waterford. We encourage members to attend Davis Day ceremonies being held throughout Nova Scotia today, and to reflect on the significance of the sacrifices made.
