CUPE Nova Scotia can’t wait to celebrate at the Cape Breton Pride Parade this Saturday (August 9th) in Sydney! We’d be thrilled to have members, family, friends and allies join us for all the fun!
There’s a new parade route this year:
- We’ll start on George Street (same as last year)
- Take a right on Dorchester Street
- Take a left on Esplanade
- A left on Townsend Street
- A right on George Street
- A right on Argyle Steet
- And finally, a right on Crescent Street
- The Party in the Park will be held at Wentworth Park after the parade
The check in area has also changed this year, and will be in front of the Eltuek Arts Centre. We’ll be taking care of getting our group checked in, so if you’re planning to join us, simply meet us where all parade participants will be lining up: down George Street and up Desbarres Street. The streets will be marked with numbers in chalk.
Our friends at Pride Cape Breton have also shared a few things to keep in mind for this year’s parade:
- Parade entries can line up as early as 10am. We’ll be decorating the CUPE van at this time, and would appreciate any help you can offer.
- There are many entries in the parade this year. The road will be marked with numbers based on entry spots (ours is #63).
- The parade will start at noon.
- It is very important not to jump in or off moving vehicles. If you start the parade in the CUPE van then you should stay there until the end of the parade. This is for everyone’s safety.
- Water and sunscreen are your friends! Be sure to bring some of each, and remind others to hydrate and use sunscreen too!
- Any extra materials from decorating or garbage should be taken with you please!
- If you are handing out items to those watching the parade, please do not throw the items at the viewers – we want to avoid injuries.
HAPPY PRIDE!!!
