National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

On September 30th, CUPE Nova Scotia solemnly observes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Also referred to as Orange Shirt Day, it is a time for reflection on the shameful legacy of Canada’s residential school system and its multi-generational effects, which are still felt today. We encourage you to honour the survivors, as well as the children who tragically never returned home to their families and communities. It is our hope that by acknowledging the damage done by colonialism’s racist policies we can make tangible progress toward reconciliation.
