Convention reconvened today with some encouraging news — Long Term Care workers would head back to the bargaining table with the province at 1 PM.
Delegates were joined this morning by Rod Wilson, NSNDP Health Critic and long-time family doctor, who has visited every LTC picket line in the province since the strike began.
Jennifer Benoit from the Nova Scotia Health Coalition brought delegates’ attention to the many issues facing our public health care system, and encouraged members to join the efforts to lobby the federal and provincial governments to expand and protect these vital services.
CUPE NS Division President Alan Linkletter announced that the All-Committees meeting at Digby Pines from October 5-8th will welcome delegates from Newfoundland and Labrador as well. The Sean Foley Memorial Health and Safety Award will be given out at this event. More information is available here.
CUPE NL Division president Sherry Hillier responded by inviting CUPE NS members to join an event in NL in 2027.
Thanks to delegates from many locals and a dollar-for-dollar match from CUPE National, nearly $20,000 was raised at Convention 2026 to support the LTC Strike Solidarity Assistance Fund.

Thanks to all delegates for a fantastic Convention. Safe journey home!
