On November 11th, CUPE Nova Scotia observes Remembrance Day to commemorate those who served in defence of the values we cherish. Many Canadians bravely made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure that future generations would enjoy the freedoms they fought so valiantly to protect. It is our responsibility to honour them, and to never take for granted the gift of peace for which they paid such a heavy price. Lest we forget.

On September 30th, CUPE Nova Scotia solemnly observes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Also referred to as Orange Shirt Day, it is a time for reflection on the shameful legacy of Canada’s residential school system and its multi-generational effects, which are still felt today. We encourage you to honour the survivors, as well as the children who tragically never returned home to their families and communities. It is our hope that by acknowledging the damage done by colonialism’s racist policies we can make tangible progress toward reconciliation. #everychildmatters
