2026 National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit People

May 5th is the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People, also known as Red Dress Day. CUPE Nova Scotia mourns these tragic losses, and offers our support and love to the grieving communities and families of those lost. Indigenous women disproportionately experience life-threatening, gender-based violence because of hatred and racism. We encourage everyone to advocate for systemic change, and to stand together in solidarity and support for justice, healing, and reconciliation. #MMIWG2S #NoMoreStolenSisters

International Workers’ Day 2026

On this International Workers’ Day (May Day), CUPE Nova Scotia affirms our solidarity with workers around the world, and celebrates the accomplishments of organized labour. The struggle for fair pay, safe working conditions, equality, and respect is ongoing, particularly in our province at the moment. May Day reminds us that every gain for workers has been achieved through the resilience of our collective strength.  ✊✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽

This day serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of workplace safety and the ongoing need to protect every worker. It is a time to reflect, to grieve, and to recommit to action. CUPE Nova Scotia stands in solidarity with all workers and their families, calling for stronger safety standards, improved protections, and safer working conditions for all.
