Special constables working as jailers at the Cape Breton Regional Police Lock-up say they have waited long enough for the employer to address wage inequities and are now going public. The eight members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 933 earn about 25 percent less than the special constables working at the Cape Breton Correctional Centre, and about 35 percent less than the Halifax lock-up booking technicians who do similar work and have the same training.
