Collective bargaining between the Council of Unions – Health Support Unit and the Nova Scotia Health Authority and IWK Children’s Hospital took place August 27 to 30. The Council exchanged proposals with the employer on August 26 followed by three days of bargaining.
Upon completion of the scheduled bargaining dates, there were many outstanding issues that were not addressed including job security language, weekend and shift premiums as well and uniform and clothing allowances.
The mediation/arbitration for the Council was originally scheduled for September 18, 2018, but now has been postponed until November 23, 2018, due to the number of outstanding issues.
The Council is hopeful that additional bargaining dates with the employer will be scheduled prior to the mediation/ arbitration hearing with William Kaplan in an effort to resolve these important issues for the members of the bargaining unit.
The 11 member Health Support Council is comprised of members from Unifor, CUPE and NSGEU with Unifor being the lead union. The Council of Health Support Union is dedicated to ensuring the best interests of their members are represented throughout the bargaining process and have worked very hard in both the preparation and throughout the bargaining process to achieve this goal.
There will be more updates to follow as this process is still ongoing.
