Resolutions and Constitutional Amendments Here are excerpts from some of the important resolutions/amendments voted on and passed by delegates at convention on Tuesday. For more details, please contact the CUPE NS executive. Constitutional Amendment #1 CUPE Nova Scotia will make available one scholarship per year, named the “Mike McNeil CUPE NS Atlantic Regional Weeklong School Scholarship”. Resolution #4 CUPE Nova Scotia will conduct local outreach to educate members about CUPE’s violence and harassment tools and resources, and educate workers about the right to refuse unsafe work and the importance of reporting all incidents involving violence and near misses. Resolution #9 CUPE Nova Scotia will lobby the provincial and federal governments to introduce legislation that will standardize the number of hours of hands-on care that’s required per resident per day in long term care homes across Canada. Vote for the party that values public sector workers Nan McFadgen, CUPE Nova Scotia President “When there’s an election coming, for example, the federal election in the fall, you need to look at all three [four] parties and see which most aligns with your interests. And then when you find the party that most aligns with your interests as a public sector worker, vote for them, whoever they are. Come out and vote. One of the reasons why we have a second mandate from Stephen McNeil and we now suffer through his four years of arrogance is because of the low voter turnout. So, look at their policies. Sunday Bulletin: 2019 Convention

Opening of the 56th Annual Division Convention The 56th annual convention of CUPE Nova Scotia opened Sunday, May 26, 2019, at the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre with 252 delegates, staff and guests in attendance. The convention was officially called to order by CUPE NS President Nan McFadgen and members of the executive gave their reports; all were adopted and official business ended. Delegates from locals across the province went up to the mic to give the names, in memorial, of members lost over the past year. Delegates then rose to observe a moment of silence. CUPE 1028 won the Early Bird Registration prize draw for $200 worth of gift certificates. Unfortunately, the members of the local were unable to attend convention as their time off requests were denied by the employer. The prize will be delivered to the local.
