Nursing Bargaining Update – September 5, 2018

Talks get underway for Council of Nursing Unions with the exchange of proposals Talks got underway today, September 5, for the Nova Scotia Council of Nursing Unions. The Nursing Council exchanged proposals with the Employer group, a group of 19 representatives from the IWK and the Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA). Additional bargaining dates are set for September 6, 19, 20, 21, and October 10, 11, 12, 17, 18 and 19. The 20-member Nursing Council is comprised of acute care nurses from NSNU, NSGEU, CUPE, and Unifor. The Council of Nursing Unions bargaining committee includes 11 members from NSNU, seven NSGEU, one from CUPE and one from Unifor. The Council of Unions and both Employers have agreed to bargain a nursing collective agreement after Health Care, Administrative Professionals, and Support Services have concluded their agreements. Halifax crossing guards ratify new contract

On September 4, crossing guards voted 99 per cent in favour of a new collective agreement with their employer, the Halifax Regional Municipality. The crossing guards are members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 4814. The agreement was reached through conciliation on August 21, 2018. Local 4814 members will receive a 9.8 per cent wage increase over the term of the three-year agreement. Other improvements include job security and extended use of vacation days. “I would like to thank our bargaining committee and the staff for their hard work over many weeks,” says CUPE Local 4814 President Glenna Casavechi. “I would also like to thank our members for their support throughout this process.” CUPE Local 4814 represents approximately 155 members who work as crossing guards employed by the Halifax Regional Municipality. CUPE 4764 Labour Day March 2018

Restorative justice caseworkers achieve new collective agreement

Restorative justice caseworkers, members of CUPE 4764, voted unanimously in favour of a new collective agreement today with their employer, the Community Justice Society (CJS).

The agreement was reached in negotiations held Friday, August 31, 2018.

Effective immediately, the caseworkers will receive an almost 20% wage increase.
